In ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, (The Hawaiian language), “pilina” is the word for connection.
How are we connected? To the land? The flowers? The migratory creatures, whales and kolea (the plover)? The resident creatures, the manta, the kwamei or melodious laughing thrush? To our grandparents? Our mentors?
Everything is connected. Connection is everywhere.

Now I do the real work. Write poetry. Dance hula. Look after my place, right here in Kohala, on the Island of Hawaiʻi.
